The Tahquitz Titans will head out to square off against the Liberty Bison at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Tahquitz is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Tahquitz is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest loss since February 27, 2024 on Thursday. They came up short against Paloma Valley, falling 9-3.
Tahquitz saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Suriah Ortiz, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Liberty). Everything went their way against Heritage on Tuesday as Liberty made off with a 17-3 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Liberty also got a great performance from Aubrie Gosy as she pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits.
At the plate, Cameryn Rutkoff and Attiana Thompson did most of the damage at the plate: Rutkoff went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Thompson scored three runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Thompson has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lily Matthews, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
Liberty always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Liberty pushed their record up to 6-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Tahquitz, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Tahquitz hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. However, it's not like Liberty struggles in that department as they've averaged .369. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Tahquitz took their victory against Liberty when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 7-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Tahquitz since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
