Basketball Recap: Isabella Eck Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Smith Center

Ellis hadn't done well against Smith Center recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Ellis Railroaders strolled past the Smith Center Redmen with points to spare, taking the game 49-34. For the Railroaders, this counts as revenge for the 62-23 victory the Redmen walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ellis to victory, but perhaps none more so than Isabella Eck, who went 7 for 17 en route to 21 points along with six boards and three steals. Those 21 points gave Eck a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Kohl, who posted 15 points.

Several Redmen players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Leah Mckelvey, who scored five points and seven rebounds.

Ellis now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Smith Center, they dropped their record down to 2-5 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Ellis wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 40-35 win against LaCrosse on the 14th. Smith Center has also already played their next game, a 61-53 victory against Russell on the 14th.
