The Zeeland East Chix will head out on the road to take on the Muskegon Big Reds at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Zeeland East focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Thursday.
Last Thursday, things could have been worse for Zeeland East, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 46-30 loss to Zeeland West. While losing is never fun, Zeeland East can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 434th, while Zeeland West is ranked 211th).
Despite their defeat, Zeeland East saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Mirra Fenlon, who scored 15 points along with two steals, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Wierenga, who scored six points along with two steals and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Muskegon had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 49 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They came out on top against Mona Shores by a score of 52-42.
This is the second loss in a row for Zeeland East and nudges their season record down to 2-7. As for Muskegon, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Zeeland East suffered a grim 52-29 defeat to Muskegon in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Zeeland East avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
