Garden City has gone 8-2 against Annapolis recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. Garden City is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Chelsea just ended the team's eight-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 6-0 to the Bulldogs. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Cougars' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, Annapolis made easy work of Henry Ford Academy on Tuesday and carried off an 18-3 win. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.
Robert Armstrong made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Annapolis is 5-2 when Armstrong allows one or fewer hits, but 7-8 otherwise. Armstrong was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two triples, two RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Xavier Raspberry was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with five stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Barnett, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Annapolis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .686. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Henry Ford Academy only posted an OBP of .389.
Annapolis is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Garden City, their loss dropped their record down to 24-7.
Annapolis' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Garden City hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. It's a different story for Annapolis, though, as they've only averaged .228. Will they be able to contain Garden City's hitters?
