Basketball Recap: JAYDEN MASON's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pocomoke over Decatur

Pocomoke lost against Decatur back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The matchup between the Pocomoke Warriors and the Decatur Seahawks didn't end well, with the Pocomoke Warriors falling 80-63. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while the Seahawks are ranked 47th).

Pocomoke's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was JAYDEN MASON, who went 8 for 10 on his way to 19 points. Another player making a difference was JAMIR ROBERTS, who posted 12 points in addition to six boards and five steals.

Even though they lost, Pocomoke smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive rebounds in 17 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Decatur's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Noah Tucker, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. Tucker's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Jonathan Purnell was another key player, going 5 of 10 en route to 16 points and six assists.

Pocomoke has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Decatur, their victory was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-3.

Pocomoke has already played their next match, a 92-80 defeat against Wicomico on the 30th. As for Decatur, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 59-48 win against Crisfield on the 3rd.
