The Cocoa Tigers can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 69-37 victory over Heritage at home. The win was just what Cocoa needed coming off of a 65-41 loss in their prior matchup.
Jonise Barcene went supernova for Cocoa, scoring 18 points along with eight steals and seven assists. It was the first time this season that Barcene scored 15 or more points. Samaria Glenn was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Trishay Collins, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds. Collins hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Daymara Colbert, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Cocoa has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. As for Heritage, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-8.
Cocoa won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Rockledge at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Hopefully Cocoa is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Rockledge in Florida (Cocoa is ranked 145th, while Rockledge is ranked 418th). As for Heritage, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Bayside at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. Hopefully Heritage focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 36 on Thursday.
