Basketball Recap: Maranatha Christian Takes a Loss

Maranatha Christian lost against Francis Parker back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Maranatha Christian Eagles were outmatched by the Francis Parker Lancers and fell 89-47. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-22.

Maranatha Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adrian Ownbey, who went 8 for 13 en route to 18 points and five rebounds. The game was Ownbey's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Will Ralston, who posted 11 points and seven boards.

Francis Parker was led to victory by Tavid Johnson and Amon Andrews. Johnson went 15 of 27 on his way to 40 points and seven rebounds, while Andrews went 7 for 12 en route to 21 points along with five assists and five boards. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last 30 games he's played dating back to last season. Columbus Palmer was another key player, putting up seven points.

Maranatha Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Francis Parker, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 12-9.

Maranatha Christian will face off against La Jolla Country Day at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. La Jolla Country Day knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight contests -- so hopefully Maranatha Christian likes a good challenge. As for Francis Parker, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 71-56 loss against Montgomery on the 22nd.
