Rocky Mount Prep and North Edgecombe are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2018, but not for long. The Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars will head out on the road to face off against the North Edgecombe Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Rocky Mount Prep will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 475th, while North Edgecombe is ranked 206th).
Rocky Mount Prep scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 47-44 victory over Wilson Prep. The victory was just what Rocky Mount Prep needed coming off of a 56-15 loss in their prior matchup.
Niylee Bullock was her usual excellent self, scoring 17 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Rocky Mount Prep's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jada Silver, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, North Edgecombe entered their tilt with Warren County with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. North Edgecombe claimed a resounding 80-47 victory over Warren County at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory North Edgecombe has managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead North Edgecombe to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ke'Ziyah Pittman, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Pittman is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was ChyAsia Garrett, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and five blocks.
The win got Rocky Mount Prep back to even at 2-2. North Edgecombe's record now sits at 3-1.
Rocky Mount Prep came up short against North Edgecombe when the teams last played back in January, falling 51-39. Can Rocky Mount Prep avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
