The Annandale Atoms's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 78-36 loss at the hands of Hayfield. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Annandale has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Annandale saw an underclassman step up: Ava Sewall scored 22 points. Sewall scored a full 61.1% of Annandale's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Susan Aburish was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Annandale's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-3. As for Hayfield, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Annandale will challenge Fairfax at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Virginia (Fairfax is ranked 248th, while Annandale is ranked 241st). Hayfield will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Woodson at 7:30 p.m. on December 15th.
