Carmel Sundevils came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24 points) and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Westview 49-46. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Mt. Carmel has posted yet this season.
Leading Mt. Carmel to victory were Jimmy Milder and Gianni Bernabe. Milder scored 14 points along with six rebounds, while Bernabe scored 23 points along with three steals. Makai Orje was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Mt. Carmel has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a massive bump to their 10-9 record this season. As for Westview, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mt. Carmel will take on Valley Center at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Valley Center focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Wednesday. As for Westview, they will be playing at home against San Pasqual at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. San Pasqual will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1067th, while Westview is ranked 517th).
