The Washington County Panthers will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Martin County Knights at 7:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Washington County sitting on 12 straight victories and Martin County on four.
Washington County posted their closest victory yet this season on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 45-42 victory over Bertie. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Washington County has scored all season.
Brandon Carter Jr. continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Carter Jr. is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Amari Chesson was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, even though North Edgecombe scored an imposing 65 points on Saturday, Martin County still came out on top. Martin County pulled ahead with a 66-65 photo finish over North Edgecombe. The victory was all the more spectacular given Martin County's disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 332nd, while North Edgecombe is ranked 127th).
Martin County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kel'javious Moore out in front who scored 17 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Moore has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kwahli Basnight, who scored 16 points.
Washington County's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-0. As for Martin County, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.
