The Rosary Academy Royals will challenge the Fullerton Indians at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.
If Rosary Academy beats Fullerton with eight runs on Saturday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Royals were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over Los Alamitos on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Royals, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
Ava Phillips tossed a big game, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, K'Lene Gutierrez was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Domonique McCoy, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.
Rosary Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Fullerton was able to grind out a solid win over JSerra Catholic on Friday, taking the game 5-1.
Katelynn Mathews spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaylyn Yi, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Melia Vera was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Fullerton's victory bumped their record up to 12-4. As for Rosary Academy, their win bumped their record up to 14-2-1.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Rosary Academy has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Fullerton struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Rosary Academy took their victory against Fullerton when the teams last played back in April of 2021 by a conclusive 9-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Royals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
