AAAAA Region 2 recap October 1, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Taylor Boyett and Darion Anderson connected against Grovetown. The connection went for 59 yards, the longest such play in AAAAA Region 2 this season.
Warner Robins added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Evans, 27-14. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Sean Vandiver was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Knights lost to Warner Robins. He.
Matlin Marshall was a passing and rushing force as Evans lost to Bryan Way's team. He completed 16 passes for 193 yards and also ran for 48 yards. Marshall's key target this week was Joacinto Grimes, who caught 3 passes for 88 yards.
Boyett put up the best numbers in passing as Houston County beat the Warriors. He finished with a total of 7 completions for 135 yards and 2 touchdowns. Boyett's favorite target this week was Josh Flowers, who caught 6 passes for 70 yards.
Marty Jackson's team's Marshall and Grimes led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Marshall has thrown for 459 yards this season, while Grimes has 12 catches for 168 yards. Kenny Gant from the Bears leads the league in rushing with 277 yards.
One of AAAAA Region 2's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when the Knights and Greenbrier face off next week.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Jones County takes on the Demons. The Greyhounds are currently in third, while Warner Robins is in first.
Houston County scaled the state rankings by moving to 88 from 175 this week, the biggest jump in the league. Von Lassiter's team climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Grovetown 52-19.
