The Wheatland-Chili Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Medina Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wheatland-Chili has three straight victories, the Mustangs have three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Wheatland-Chili put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 54-34 margin over Elba. Given Wheatland-Chili's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while the Lancers are ranked 574th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leighton Williams continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 24 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Louden Thrush, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Medina came up short against the Tigers on Wednesday and fell 55-48. Medina has struggled against the Tigers recently, as their contest on Wednesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Jerrell Nealy, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 35.4% of Medina's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Preston Woodworth, who scored 15 points.
