The Jefferson Dragons will head out on the road to face off against the Tampa Catholic Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Jefferson is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
Two weeks ago, Jefferson was the victim of a tough 35-14 loss at the hands of Robinson. Jefferson was down 28-6 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite their defeat, Jefferson saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Ronnell Dubose, who rushed for 115 yards on only 12 carries, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Cunningham, who threw for 139 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Tampa Catholic pushed their score all the way to 48 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Fort Myers by a score of 51-48. Despite running the score up even higher than they did two weeks ago (38), Tampa Catholic still had to take the loss.
Trey Hedden put forth a good effort for the losing side as he threw for 327 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per attempt, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Tj Moore was in the mix too, providing Tampa Catholic with two touchdowns.
Even if they lost, Tampa Catholic's defensive line still kept up the pressure with 4.5 sacks. Leading the way was Xavier Porter and his two sacks.
The losses dropped Jefferson to 1-7 and Tampa Catholic to 3-4.
Jefferson suffered a grim 35-14 defeat to Tampa Catholic when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Can Jefferson avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
