Softball Recap: Bethlehem Wins Going Away Against Western Hills

The Bethlehem Eagles/Banshees got the win against the Western Hills Wolverines on Saturday by a conclusive 17-6. Considering the Eagles/Banshees have won 13 games by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Alexis Hume was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Bethlehem let Paige Miller and Malorie Thiel run wild. Miller went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Thiel went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. That's the most RBI Thiel has posted over her last nine matchups. Taylor Goshorn was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Bethlehem always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Western Hills only posted an OBP of .444.

Bethlehem is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Western Hills, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-14.

Looking ahead, Bethlehem will be playing at home against Thomas Nelson at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Generals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.5 runs per game on average), something the Eagles/Banshees will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Western Hills, they will head out to face off against Fern Creek at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
