Basketball Recap: Twinsburg Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Kayla Cellura and Jaci Hutton

Twinsburg has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 50-46 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mentor Cardinals. The Tigers were probably out for revenge after losing 51-48 to them when the teams met back in November of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the defeat, Twinsburg had strong showings from Jaci Hutton, who went 6 of 13 on her way to 16 points in addition to five boards and four steals, and Kayla Cellura, who posted 11 points. What's more, Cellura also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in February of 2024.

Mentor can attribute much of their success to Alex Ferritto, who had 11 points and five rebounds. Ferritto has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Nina Rodriguez, who scored eight points and eight boards.

Twinsburg's loss dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Mentor, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.

Twinsburg has already played their next match, a 50-48 win against Brecksville-Broadview Heights on the 25th. As for Mentor, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 55-12 victory against Euclid on the 24th.
