CHESS Academy has been on the road for four straight, but on Monday they'll finally head home. They will be home for the holidays to greet the Furlow Charter School Falcons at 6:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
CHESS Academy pushed their score all the way to 56 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. Their tough 76-56 defeat to Byne Christian might stick with them for a while. CHESS Academy has not had much luck with Byne Christian recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Furlow Charter School, who are still winless after their ninth contest. They were beaten by Crawford County 86-30 on Tuesday.
Despite their defeat, Furlow Charter School saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Enrique Retana, who scored eight points, was perhaps the best of all. Braylon Smothers was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
CHESS Academy has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season. As for Furlow Charter School, their loss was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-9.
