Calexico and Central are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but not for long. The Calexico Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Central Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Thursday, Calexico had just enough and edged Vincent Memorial out 65-62.

Calexico found their leader in sophomore Edgar Mendoza, who posted 26 points and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mendoza has scored all season. Dany Carreon was another key player, putting up eight points along with ten rebounds and six assists.
Meanwhile, Central didn't have too much trouble with Southwest EC on Friday as they won 71-52. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won nine in a row.
Central's win came from a few key players Calexico will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was David Lopez, who went 7 of 16 en route to 19 points. Another player making a difference was Daimaggio Wyatt, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 16 boards.
Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive matchups.
Calexico's victory bumped their record up to 16-8. As for Central, their win bumped their record up to 13-10.
Wednesday's game will pit two of the most dominant forwards against one another: Carreon and Wyatt. Carreon has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 15.4 points, 1.7 steals, and 6.9 rebounds. For his part, Wyatt has averaged 16 points, 1.6 steals, and 7.6 boards on 50.5% shooting.
Calexico barely slipped by Central in their previous meeting back in January, winning 47-46. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Wyatt, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Calexico still be able to contain Wyatt? There's only one way to find out.
