The Athens Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Hughesville Spartans at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Athens' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Hughesville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Thursday, Athens got the win against Wyalusing Valley by a conclusive 11-1. Considering the Wildcats have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Kamdyn Wheeler spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit.

On the hitting side, Brady Flynn was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Eli Chapman also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hughesville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Bloomsburg 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Spartans have posted against the Panthers since April 20, 2021.
The team relied heavily on Dylan McConnell, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Blake Babb was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Hughesville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Athens' win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Hughesville, their record is now 8-6.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Athens has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .505. However, it's not like Hughesville struggles in that department as they've averaged .447. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
