Big Spring and James Buchanan are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Bulldogs are taking a road trip to take on the Rockets at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Big Spring will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Big Spring proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by 16) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Northern York 1-0.
Not much got past Rilee Stewart, who gave up just five hits and racked up six Ks to keep Northern York off the board. Stewart has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Big Spring's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Victoria Rinaldi, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 runs the game before, James Buchanan was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (12-2), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
Audrey Dickson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Big Spring's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for James Buchanan, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Big Spring has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .472. However, it's not like James Buchanan struggles in that department as they've averaged .471. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Big Spring came out on top in a nail-biter against James Buchanan in their previous matchup on Thursday, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
