The South Cougars scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They managed a 67-63 victory over Newton. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Jace Humphrey continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 25 points along with nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Gavin Devoe was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for South and bumps their season record up to 2-9. As for Newton, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-7-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South will face off against Maize South at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Maize South presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than South in Kansas (Maize South is ranked third, while South is ranked 239th). As for Newton, they will head out on the road to face off against Hutchinson on Tuesday.
