Rio Grande is a perfect 10-0 against West Mesa since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Ravens will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Rio Grande has seven straight victories, West Mesa has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Rio Grande barely beat Atrisco Heritage Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Ravens never let the Jaguars get on the board and left with a 12-0 win on Tuesday. The Ravens might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by nine runs or more this season.
Luis Salinas was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Reyes Martinez was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, West Mesa didn't have quite enough to beat Santa Fe on Monday and fell 3-2.
West Mesa also got a good showing from Trinidad Aragon, who didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.
At the plate, West Mesa saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Juan Salcedo, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one double.
Rio Grande pushed their record up to 15-9 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for West Mesa, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-17.
West Mesa's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Rio Grande hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .348. It's a different story for West Mesa, though, as they've only averaged .214. Will they be able to contain Rio Grande's hitters?
Rio Grande took their victory against West Mesa when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 11-0 score. Will the Ravens repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
