Lucy Braegger spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kailee Hall was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Lucy Griffin was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
Box Elder was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .517. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in six consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Woods Cross ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Northridge 10-9.
Bree Benson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over eight innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off 14 hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Audrey Ayala was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Whitney Winegar, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Box Elder's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 23-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Woods Cross, their win bumped their record up to 7-13.
Woods Cross' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Box Elder has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Woods Cross, though, as they've been averaging 9.9 hits. Given Box Elder's sizable advantage in that area, the Wildcats will need to find a way to close that gap.
Box Elder took their victory against Woods Cross when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 19-0 score. Will the Bees repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
