Basketball Game Preview: Colonial Heights Colonials vs. Southampton Indians

Colonial Heights and Southampton are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. The Colonial Heights Colonials will head out on the road to challenge the Southampton Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Colonial Heights is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.9 points per game this season.

Colonial Heights is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Hopewell on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Colonial Heights was outmatched by Hopewell and fell 76-38. While losing is never fun, the Colonials can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 305th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 26th).

Despite the loss, Colonial Heights had strong showings from Za'Marion Mason, who posted ten points and seven rebounds, and Zyeir Dixon, who earned six points and nine boards. The dominant performance gave Dixon a new career-high in rebounds. Jahmari Mason also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Meanwhile, Southampton entered their match against Greensville County on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Southampton took a 64-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Greensville County.

Colonial Heights has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.6 points per game. As for Southampton, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-2.

Colonial Heights came up short against Southampton in their previous matchup two weeks ago, falling 87-80. Can Colonial Heights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
