The Ocean City Raiders lost against the Mainland Regional Mustangs on January 5th, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Sunday. Ocean City fell 55-42 to Mainland Regional. While losing is never fun, Ocean City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 164th, while Mainland Regional is ranked third).
When it comes to explaining why Ocean City lost, one person who can't be blamed is Madelyn Adamson. Despite the final result, she scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marley Ostrander, who scored eight points.
Ocean City has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Mainland Regional, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 18-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ocean City will square off against Holy Spirit at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mainland Regional, they will head out on the road to square off against Wildwood Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wildwood Catholic is on a three-game streak of home wins, Mainland Regional a 15-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
