The Community School of Naples Seahawks will take on the Cardinal Newman Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Community School of Naples is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Northside Christian 63-13. Given the Seahawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 57th, while the Mustangs are ranked 215th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jayvian Tanelus had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 194 yards and five scores on only 11 carries. His longest rush was for an incredible 90 yards. Jaden Phillips was another key back, rushing for 138 yards and one touchdown on only five carries.
Community School of Naples' run defense was locked in: Northside Christian could only muster 0.5 yards per carry. While five picked up at least two total tackles, Ryder Brown stood above the rest. He made two total tackles and defended one pass in addition to snagging four interceptions which he returned one-yard for a touchdown. Community School of Naples didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 15.5.
Community School of Naples didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Brown picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown. Micah Fils Aime was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making five total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Cardinal Newman got themselves on the board against Benjamin on Friday, but Benjamin never followed suit. They breezed past the Buccaneers to the tune of 37-0. The Crusaders haven't had any issues with the Buccaneers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Community School of Naples better keep an eye on Jyron Hughley. He was instrumental in Cardinal Newman's win, rushing for 71 yards and a pair of TDs on only seven carries, while also throwing for 144 yards and one touchdown. Another player making a difference was Phoenix Donghia, who rushed for 73 yards and one score on only nine carries.
Community School of Naples' record now sits at 8-2. As for Cardinal Newman, their record is now 8-3.
Community School of Naples was taken down by Cardinal Newman 42-0 when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Can the Seahawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
