Benjamin is 2-8 against Cardinal Newman since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Buccaneers will venture away from home to square off against the Crusaders at 6:30 p.m. Cardinal Newman took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Benjamin, who comes in off a win.
Benjamin's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Santaluces with a sharp 12-0 victory. The Buccaneers not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 12, 2025 (when they won 33-0).
Brady Davis looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, CJ Soto was incredible, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Gus Doskey, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Benjamin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santaluces only posted an OBP of .286.
Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Cardinal Newman was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Martin County. The loss put an end to the Crusaders' undefeated start to the season.
Cardinal Newman saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Baughman, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Having lost for the first time this season, Cardinal Newman fell to 2-1. As for Benjamin, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Benjamin has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cardinal Newman struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Benjamin came up short against Cardinal Newman in their previous meeting back in February of 2025, falling 9-5. Can the Buccaneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
