Valley extended the longest winning streak in WPIAL AA Allegheny this week by beating Summit Academy, 22-16. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Vikings.
Deer Lakes was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Lancers defeated the Lancers 56-14.
East Allegheny's dynamic duo of Kyle Whipple and K.J. Marshall proved tough for Freeport to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Whipple threw for 207 yards and two touchdowns and Marshall had 111 yards receiving. Shawn Adair helped East Allegheny's passing attack out by catching three balls for 45 yards.
Brendan Lynch provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Yellowjackets bested the Wild Cats. He completed two passes for 47 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 227 yards. Lynch's favorite target this week was Dustin Koedel, who caught one pass for 24 yards.
East Allegheny's Whipple and Adair have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Whipple has thrown for 1338 yards this season, while Adair, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 24 catches for 526 yards. Lynch from Freeport leads the league in rushing with 850 yards.
A big matchup in WPIAL AA Allegheny this week will be when Valley takes on Kittanning. As it stands, Chad Walsh's team is in third, while the Wildcats are in fifth.
John Gaillot's team moved up to 144 from 189 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Yellowjackets climbed the ranks as a result of besting Jason Ruscitto's team 36-20.
