Coeur d'Alene is a perfect 10-0 against Post Falls since May of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Vikings will venture away from home to square off against the Trojans at 3:00 p.m. Coeur d'Alene is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Coeur d'Alene is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Lake City, who was ranked 25th at the time (Coeur d'Alene was ranked ninth). The Vikings came out on top against the Timberwolves by a score of 11-8 on Tuesday. The game snapped a strange streak: the last five times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Ellie Henderson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Molly Nelson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Coeur d'Alene kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Post Falls waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Hawks 9-7.
Rylan Morrison spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Sienna Williams and Natalie Stroud did most of the damage at the plate: Williams went 4-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and one double, while Stroud went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kulani Peahu-Michael, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Post Falls pushed their record up to 6-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Coeur d'Alene, their record now sits at 13-1.
Post Falls' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Coeur d'Alene has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Post Falls, though, as they've been averaging 9.1 hits. Given Coeur d'Alene's sizable advantage in that area, the Trojans will need to find a way to close that gap.
Coeur d'Alene skirted past Post Falls 10-8 when the teams last played two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
