This season hasn't been kind to the Central Bears, who are still winless after their eighth contest. They suffered a tough 52-27 defeat at the hands of Nature Coast Tech on Friday. Central was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-10.
When it comes to explaining why Central lost, one person who can't be blamed is Delanee Duncan. Despite the final result, she scored 11 points along with five rebounds. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Leilani White, who scored four points.
Leading Nature Coast Tech to victory were Quintara Norwood and Gabby Dross. Norwood scored 12 points along with four steals, while Dross scored 14 points along with seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Castillo O, who scored six points along with four steals.
Central bumped their record down to 0-8 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.6 points per game. As for Nature Coast Tech, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central will challenge Fivay at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Fivay focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Thursday. Nature Coast Tech's road trip will continue as they head out to face Hernando at 7:30 p.m. on December 19th. Hernando is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
