Basketball Recap: Greenwood's Loss Ends Eight-Game Winning Streak at Home

Greenwood entered their matchup against J.L. Mann on Monday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Greenwood Eagles fell to the J.L. Mann Patriots 50-46. The Eagles were probably out for revenge after losing 55-48 to them when the teams met back in January of 2020, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Greenwood's loss came despite strong showings from Tykirea Johnson and Danielle Oliver. Johnson posted 22 points and six rebounds, while Oliver earned 17 points. Oliver's evening made it nine games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.

J.L. Mann's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Olivia McKinney, who went 5 for 12 en route to 11 points in addition to five assists and three steals. McKinney is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Breah Franks, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 14 points along with seven boards and three blocks.

Greenwood's loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-6. As for J.L. Mann, their win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-6.

Greenwood has already played their next game, a 48-41 defeat against Greenville on the 28th. As for J.L. Mann, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-28 victory against Hillcrest on the 28th.
