The Medina Mustangs are on the road again on Saturday and plays the Wheatland-Chili Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Hopefully Medina focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Medina came up short against the Tigers and fell 55-48. While losing is never fun, Medina can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 602nd, while the Tigers are ranked 285th).
Despite their loss, Medina saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jerrell Nealy, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. That was a full 35.4% of Medina's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Preston Woodworth was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Meanwhile, Wheatland-Chili waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They blew past Elba 54-34. Wheatland-Chili has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 20 points or more this season.
Leighton Williams was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points. Another player making a difference was Louden Thrush, who scored nine points.
Medina's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Wheatland-Chili, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season.
