Verrado is a perfect 4-0 against Youngker since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Vipers will face off against the Roughriders at 3:45 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Verrado has 15 straight victories, Youngker has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Thursday, Verrado was able to grind out a solid win over Desert Edge, taking the game 6-2.
Jill Ryan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up 13 Ks.
At the plate, Verrado let Dakota Chazaro and Jaiden Stell run wild. Chazaro went 2-for-3 with one home run, while Stell went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Cameron Marchese was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Youngker came up short against Desert Edge on Wednesday and fell 12-7.
Oliva Vega stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 1-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Audrina Torres, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Verrado pushed their record up to 15-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Youngker, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.
Youngker's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Verrado has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Youngker, though, as they've been averaging 12.1 hits. Given Verrado's sizable advantage in that area, the Roughriders will need to find a way to close that gap.
Verrado took their victory against Youngker in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 19-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vipers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
