Central recap October 29, 2013
University City scaled the state rankings by moving to 687 from 734 this week, the biggest jump in Central. The Centurions climbed the ranks as a result of beating Coronado 28-18.
Clairemont lost to Christian 49-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Alessandro Baldassarre ran for 92 yards in the defeat.
Robby Weissenfels was a passing and rushing force as the Islanders lost to University City. He completed 22 passes for 247 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 32 yards. Weissenfels' key target this week was Leland Orr, who caught 6 passes for 87 yards.
Michael Carrillo threw for 179 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Nick Sexton was the best wideout in the league this week as the Patriots bested Clairemont. Sexton racked up 4 receptions for 110 yards. Kai Arvan helped Christian's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 45 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Christian's Carrillo and Arvan have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-11 quarterback Carrillo has thrown for 1,669 yards this season, while Arvan has 24 catches for 540 yards. Ron Gladnick's team's Baldassarre leads the league in rushing yards with 489.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Matt Oliver's team's Arvan goes up against Charles James' team's Kyle LeBlanc.
One of Central's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when the Patriots and the Centurions face off next week.
Next week's game between Christian and University City will feature an aerial matchup as Carrillo tests his arm against LeBlanc's defensive ability.
The Patriots are in first place, while the Centurions are in third place.
University City made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,804 from 10,506. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 28-18 victory over Coronado last week.
