Asheville Christian Academy had to suffer through a rough 67-38 loss at the hands of Asheville School (Independent). While losing is never fun, Asheville Christian Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 315th, while Asheville School (Independent) is ranked 94th).
When it comes to explaining why Asheville Christian Academy lost on Tuesday, one person who can't be blamed is Sara Larios. Despite the final result, she scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Larios also posted two blocks for the first time this season.
Ryann Hernandez was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds for Asheville School (Independent). Hernandez is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Carmen Perez-Aparicio, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and five assists.
Asheville Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Asheville School (Independent), they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Asheville Christian Academy will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Carolina Day at 5:15 p.m. on January 29th. As for Asheville School (Independent), they will challenge Rabun Gap-Nacoochee at 5:15 p.m. on Friday.
