Peyton has gone a perfect 3-0 against Las Animas recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Panthers will be playing at home against the Trojans at 10:00 a.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Peyton 3.5, Las Animas 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Peyton's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Wednesday's struggle, when Manitou Springs hitters got past them. The Panthers came up short against the Mustangs on Wednesday, falling 11-1. The match marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Peyton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Liam Stewart, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double. That double was Stewart's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Las Animas got themselves on the board against Calhan on Wednesday, but Calhan never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Bulldogs. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.
Logan Servaes made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Servaes was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, Las Animas let Jesus Lopez and Nicholas Duran run wild. Lopez scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Duran scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave Duran a new career-high. Kree Wallace was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Las Animas always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Calhan only posted an OBP of .240.
Having lost for the first time this season, Peyton fell to 7-1. As for Las Animas, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Peyton has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .508. However, it's not like Las Animas struggles in that department as they've averaged .502. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Peyton came out on top in a nail-biter against Las Animas when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
