4A/3A Conference 14 recap December 3, 2013
Rose was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting Hoggard. The Rampants came in at 21 in the state poll after placing at number 33 last week.
Eastern Wayne extended the longest winning streak in 4A/3A Conference 14 this week by beating Eastern Alamance, 12-7. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
Rose's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Khalil Smith threw for 216 and 3 touchdowns and Cornell Powell had 89 yards receiving. On the ground Nick King chipped in 68 yards. Marquise Braxton helped Rose's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 40 yards.
He was 16-30 with 0 interceptions.
Powell was the best wideout in the league this week as Dave Wojtecki's team beat the Vikings. Powell racked up 4 receptions for 89 yards. Braxton helped Rose's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 40 yards.
The Rampants' Smith and Powell led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback Smith has thrown for 2,638 yards this season, while Powell has 42 catches for 1,094 yards. New Bern's Cody Purdie leads the league in rushing yards with 1,226.
In 162 carries Johnathan Shrock has accumulated 937 yard this year.
Accruing a total of 14 touchdowns this year, Mike Hughes has thrown for 1,879 yards with 5 interceptions.
Eastern Wayne and the Eagles played the closest game in 4A/3A Conference 14 this week, with Eastern Wayne eventually emerging with a 12-7 victory.
