The Bishop Rosecrans Bishops will square off against the Berne Union Rockets at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Bishop Rosecrans 3.8, Berne Union 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Bishop Rosecrans gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Fisher Catholic as they made off with a 9-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Bishops, who have now won five contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Coen Grandstaff spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 12 Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nick Bernath, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kohen Harris, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Bishop Rosecrans kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Berne Union had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Falcons by a score of 6-3.
Bishop Rosecrans is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Berne Union, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bishop Rosecrans has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Berne Union struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Bishop Rosecrans took their victory against Berne Union in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 9-3 score. Will the Bishops repeat their success, or do the Rockets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
