The Carver Tigers stacked an 11th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Saturday. They blew past Thomasville 65-25 on the road. Given Carver's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 59th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 355th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Carver found their leader in underclassman Tobiaz Tolbert, who scored six points along with 12 rebounds and seven blocks. Tolbert has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakobe Caslin, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Thomasville's loss came despite strong showings from Xavier Burkes jr. and Michael Anderson. Burkes jr. scored ten points along with seven rebounds and two steals, while Anderson scored five points. Burkes jr. has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played.
Thomasville struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Carver racked up 11 assists.
The victory was the third in a row for Carver, bringing their record for this year to 19-2. As for Thomasville, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 14 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carver will challenge the Golden Tornadoes at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Monroe will be looking to keep their eight-game home win streak alive. As for Thomasville, they will head out on the road to square off against the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Dougherty focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Friday.
