The Statesboro Blue Devils stacked a ninth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Coffee as Statesboro made off with a 67-44 win. Given Statesboro's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Trojans are ranked 133rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Alyssa Staten, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in the last nine games she's played. Reya Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds.
Coffee's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jasmine Porter, who scored nine points along with three steals. Porter has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Tekyla Hancock, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds.
Statesboro's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.4 points per game. As for Coffee, their loss dropped their record down to 10-10.
Statesboro will head out on the road to challenge the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Swainsboro knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully the Blue Devils likes a good challenge. As for Coffee, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Gators at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Ware County will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
