PORTLAND, Mich. -
St. Patrick (Portland, Mich.) saw its 27-point lead dwindle to six, but still managed to hang on and upset
St. Philip Catholic Central (Battle Creek, Mich.) 34-28 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Collin Lay in the first quarter, the Shamrocks led 21-7 at the half.
St. Patrick expanded its lead to 27 points entering the fourth quarter. SP scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by
Kyle Schrauben.
With the win the Portland school extended its winning streak to 11 games. The Shamrocks defeated the Cardinals 54-28 last week.
Lay stood out for St. Patrick in the win. The senior quarterback ran for three touchdowns. He has now scored 26 touchdowns on the season.
The loss comes after St. Philip Catholic Central defeated Waldron 42-20 last week. The loss snapped the Fighting Tigers' 3-game winning streak.
