Vinal RVT and Wolcott RVT are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Hawks will venture away from home to take on the Wildcats at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
Platt RVT hit Vinal RVT with a four-run third inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hawks fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 6-5. The Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Andrew Tupay was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Connor Rembisz, who went 3-for-4 with two runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wolcott RVT). They blew past Bassick 24-0 on Wednesday. The victory was nothing new for the Wildcats as they're now sitting on six straight.
Daniel Mazzetti made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with four runs and one RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Devon Schmitt looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April.
Back at the plate, Wolcott RVT got a massive performance out of Andrew Soria, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave Soria a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Leonard, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs.
Wolcott RVT kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matchups.
Wolcott RVT's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Vinal RVT, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-16.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Vinal RVT has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wolcott RVT struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Vinal RVT couldn't quite finish off Wolcott RVT in their previous meeting back in April and fell 2-0. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
