The Taft Greyhounds had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They strolled past George West with points to spare, taking the game 50-34. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Leading Taft to victory were Enrique Rodriguez and JJ Acosta. Rodriguez picked up 296 receiving yards and five touchdowns, while Acosta threw for 466 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 12.9 yards per attempt. Acosta hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for five straight games.
Several Longhorns players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Caiden Salinas, who rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns, and also picked up 46 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Jonalbert Cisneros, who rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown.
Taft's victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.7 points per game. As for George West, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-7.
Taft will face off against Comfort at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. George West does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
