Mason McCormick and James Bivins made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, McCormick pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Bivins struck out nine batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2025. At bat, McCormick went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Bivins went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Xander DeHerrera, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Ricardo Gutierrez, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Eagle Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .436. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in five consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Standley Lake got the win against Steamboat Springs on Saturday by a conclusive 17-5. The win continues a trend for the Gators in their matchups with the Sailors: they've now won four in a row.
Carter Casias was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Marc Garcia was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Eagle Valley's record now sits at 3-0. As for Standley Lake, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Eagle Valley has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 13 hits per game. However, it's not like Standley Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Eagle Valley was able to grind out a solid victory over Standley Lake in their previous matchup back in May of 2019, winning 11-8. Will the Devils repeat their success, or do the Gators have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
