The Sanford Warriors waltzed into their contest on Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They claimed a resounding 72-16 victory over Wilmington Christian at home. That looming 72-16 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Sanford yet this season.
Sanford's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zir Ellegood, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ellegood has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Marquis Newson, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
Sanford is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Wilmington Christian, they dropped their record down to 4-4 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sanford's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Wilmington Friends at 5:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Wilmington Friends will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Delaware Rankings (they are ranked 28th, while Sanford is ranked fourth). As for Wilmington Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Tower Hill at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
