Owensboro is 1-6 against the Fighting Tigers since February of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Owensboro Red Devils will head out on the road to take on the Breckinridge County Fighting Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Owensboro is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
Last Saturday, Owensboro came up short against the Colonels and fell 56-48.
Despite their loss, Owensboro saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Unique Carter-Swanagan, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Carter-Swanagan is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Shalyn Sprinkles, who scored 24 points.
Meanwhile, Breckinridge County can now show off nine landslide victories after their most recent contest on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 63-7 victory over Frederick Fraize on the road. The win was just what Breckinridge County needed coming off of a 69-46 defeat in their prior match.
Breckinridge County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elizabeth Grimes, who scored 15 points along with two steals. Kayleigh Huffines was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Owensboro's loss dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Breckinridge County, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.
Monday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Owensboro have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 38.6% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Breckinridge County struggles in that department as they've made 46.5% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Owensboro didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against the Fighting Tigers in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, but they still walked away with a 48-43 win.
