Southeast Guilford hasn't had much luck against Northern Guilford recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. It'll be Northside v. Southside when Southeast Guilford and Northern Guilford meet at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Northern Guilford's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: Southeast Guilford hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. Southeast Guilford never let Grimsley get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Friday.
Katie Jenkins-Cowart was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
In other batting news, Jessica Wilson was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Kamden Alston was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Southeast Guilford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .625. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .344 or higher in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Northern Guilford got the win against Ragsdale on Friday by a conclusive 15-0. The victory continues a trend for the Nighthawks in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won nine in a row.
Like Southeast Guilford, Northern Guilford also got a great game from a two-way player: Morgan Headen. She tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Headen a new career-low in walks (zero). She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Anna Kimrey was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Raegen Simmons, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple.
Southeast Guilford's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Northern Guilford, their win bumped their record up to 11-4.
Both Southeast Guilford and Northern Guilford just can't seem to miss. Southeast Guilford has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Northern Guilford struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
