South Greene is a perfect 4-0 against Hampton since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Rebels are taking a road trip to take on the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. South Greene is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.
It was a classic North v. South duel when South Greene challenged North Greene on Monday. The Rebels came up short against the Huskies, falling 9-2. It was the first time this season that the Rebels let down their fans at home.
Kortnei Bailey put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Bailey was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three contest, Hampton brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They put the hurt on Johnson County with a sharp 17-2 victory on Thursday. The matchup marked the Bulldogs' most dominant win of the season.
The team relied heavily on Hannah Smith, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted over her last 12 contests. Another player making a difference was Hadley Vines, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Hampton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .852. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Hampton moved to 7-13 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for South Greene, they suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 8-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. South Greene has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hampton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went South Greene's way against Hampton when the teams last played two weeks ago, as South Greene made off with an 11-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rebels since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
