1A South Central recap Oct. 9, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Crowley County, who took down 98th ranked Crowley County, 32-7.
Limon extended the longest winning streak in 1A South Central this week by beating Rocky Ford, 42-8. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Ryan Imber was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 121 yards on 15 carries as Byers fell to Limon. Teammate Raul Hurtado added to the ground attack by rushing for 64 yards.
VAZQUAZ was the best wideout in the league this week as Rocky Ford fell to Mike O'Dwyer's team. VAZQUAZ racked up six receptions for 81 yards. NATE FINNELL helped Rocky Ford's passing attack out by catching two balls for 12 yards.
Gavin Liggett put up the best numbers through the air as the Badgers bested Bart Rusler's team. He finished with a total of five completions for 129 yards and three touchdowns. Liggett's favorite target this week was Landon Stang, who caught two passes for 48 yards.
FINNELL made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Meloneers lost to Limon. The 6-foot-0 sophomore forced one fumble and racked up 1.0 sack.
The Badgers' Liggett and Stang have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 1A South Central in both passing and receiving yards. Liggett has thrown for 797 yards this season, while Stang, a 5-foot-6 receiver, has 12 catches for 343 yards. The Bulldogs' Imber leads the league in rushing yards with 739.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Byers takes on Burlington. David Dodge's team is currently in third, while the Cougars are in fourth.
Burlington made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,970 from 8,160. The improvement came about via a 32-7 victory over the Chargers last week.
